At Tungsten Services, we don’t just handle electrical work—we also help improve home and business connectivity. This week, we installed a WiFi mesh system for a customer in Walton-on-Thames who was struggling with poor signal throughout their property.
The Problem: Patchy WiFi and Dead Spots
The customer had been dealing with weak WiFi in certain areas, especially in the garage, summer house, and garden. Their old router just wasn’t powerful enough to cover the whole property, and thick walls were blocking the signal. On top of that, their previous system had been unreliable due to damage from animals chewing through the cables, making their connection even worse. Streaming, gaming, and even simple web browsing had become frustrating.
The Solution: Installing a WiFi Mesh System
To sort this out properly, we recommended a WiFi mesh system. Unlike a basic WiFi extender, which can slow things down, a mesh system uses multiple access points to create a single, seamless network with full coverage. That way, the customer wouldn’t have to worry about switching networks or dealing with weak spots.
For the first phase of the project, we ran armoured data cabling around the garden to protect against animal damage—something that had caused issues in the past. We then installed mesh access points covering the garage, summer house, and garden, spanning over 100 meters. This setup ensured solid WiFi throughout all outdoor areas, so the customer could use the internet without interruptions no matter where they were.
The Result: Fast, Reliable WiFi Across Outdoor Spaces
Once we got everything set up, the difference was clear straight away. The customer could now stream 4K videos, make video calls, and browse without any buffering or dropouts—even in the garden and outbuildings. Having a rock-solid connection outdoors was a game-changer for them, whether working outside or just relaxing with some music or a film.
What’s Next? Expanding the Network Indoors
Now that the outdoor areas are sorted, the next step is to integrate the same network throughout the house. This will make sure they’ve got fast, reliable WiFi in every room, eliminating any dead zones once and for all.
